Mansur's Anatomical Illustrations (1390)

The Persian author Mansur Ibn-Ilyas based his anatomy on the European-Latin teachings established by the Greek doctor Galen, which were in circulation in numerous medieval manuscripts. In particular the division of Mansur's work into five anatomical systems--bones, nerves, muscles, veins, arteries--as well as the schematic illustrations (here arteries with kidneys) that accompany the work reflect the remarkable continuity of anatomical knowledge across cultures.
