Teaching Data Literacy in Social Studies: An Interactive Professional Development Tool

Michigan Social Studies Standards

How do the Michigan Social Studies Standards address data literacy?  Go though the document and highlight:

1. Explicit references to data literacy. These are standards that specify that students should be working with timelines, maps, graphs or charts.
2. Implicit references to data literacy. Look for words like distribution, patterns, sequence, connection, diffusion, movement, migration, and economic indicators.
3. References to using a "variety of" or "multiple" sources or evidence.  Both primary and secondary sources can include data visualizations!
